In the early 1930s, letters began arriving in the small Italian city of Verona addressed simply to "Juliet of Verona." Unsure what to do with them, the local postman started delivering them to Juliet's tomb, where a sympathetic caretaker began writing back on her behalf.
Today, Romeo and Juliet are a full-blown industry in Verona, drawing thousands of tourists each year to gaze up at Juliet's balcony, buy souvenirs, or touch the statue in her courtyard for luck.
